Oh, day 3! 06/16/2010

Tuesday on the build site. :) It was a bit rainy again, but nice and cool.

Back for more!

June 13, we went out to build and after about an hour and a half we had to stop because of a major downpour.

Maggie and Carmen went all over the Cornell College in Cedar Rapids, IA. It was interesting a lot of fun to see the buildings before the opening ceremony.

An inspirational blessing for this year's Habitat for Humanity/AmeriCorps Build-a-Thon in Cedar Rapids, IA.

It was an great day in Cedar Rapids, IA...although sweltering hot. The opening ceremony was very informative and exciting. It was 2 yrs ago that Cedar Rapids was devastated by extreme flooding and the residents here remember it like it was just yesterday. To hear the stories and listen to how blessed they feel by us being here to help rebuild, was a bit humbling. It is great to be a part of helping to restore the lives of so many.

Videos of the opening ceremony will be posted soon.

Build-a-Thon is in Cedar Rapids, IA this year and is an event where Habitat VISTAs and National Direct come to do a blitz build. This year Build-a-Thon returns to Cedar Rapids to continue recovery efforts from the floods in 2008. Here is our video chronicling the travel to the event. You will see about 2min. of video, but the trip took 16hrs total.

The event was well-attended by residents and dignitaries. This organization was started to respond to the need for resources in the North Mason area. DSHS will be represented here as well as many area non-profits such as Faith in Action, Disabled Vets and even us. So come out to the Lincoln Center in Belfair and check out the resources. Below is a photo slideshow of the ribbon cutting.

We are also featuring it on our Facebook page. If you would like to copy it to your Facebook page, just go to any one of the widgets that we have set up and click on the tab 'Copy' and it will ask you where you are trying to copy it to. You can put it on Facebook or a website/blog. Let's see who will be the first to use it!
