Habitat to Relocate Shelton Store
Shelton, WA, January 21, 2014 – Habitat for Humanity of Mason County announced that they will be moving their Shelton Store location to the former Viking Building located at 1826 Olympic Highway North. The Store will stay open at its current location of 205 W Cota Street until the move is finalized in early March.
“This move will provide our Shelton Store with just under 1,700 additional square feet,” said Tammey Newton, Executive Director, “It will also provide us with increased visibility and decreased expenses, allowing us to reach more people and expand the impact Habitat can have in our community.”
Habitat for Humanity of Mason County has two community Stores, one located in Shelton and one located Belfair. The Habitat Stores offer new and gently used home improvement items, appliances and furniture at bargain prices. Funds generated from the Stores are used to help build new homes and assist low-income homeowners with needed maintenance and home-improvements so that they may remain in their homes.
“You are saving some green and while being green.” said Mrs. Newton “Not only are we able to save people money, repurpose the funds from donations into homes and home repairs, but we are also giving a new use to items that otherwise could have ended up in a landfill.”
One of the greatest needs Habitat will have over the next few weeks will be securing donated items to fill the new Store location. They are currently seeking donation for items such as cabinetry, tools, plumbing, electrical, and gently used appliances and furniture. The goal is to start receiving donations in the new location mid February so they may swiftly transition from one location to the other without having to close the Store for any period of time. Additionally, Habitat is seeking a donated trailer or storage container for temporary use so that they may receive donations while work continues on the store prior to opening.
Donations and shoppers at the stores helped Habitat start House #23, their first North Mason home build in Belfair, which is due to be completed in the spring 2014 and also assisted 48 families to stay in their homes through home maintenance and safety improvements ranging from minor roof repairs, broken window replacements and wheelchair ramps.
