Shelton, WA, April 29, 2014 – Habitat for Humanity of Mason County was presented with a grant for $7,500 from Olympia Federal Savings at the North Mason Chamber luncheon on April 23rd.

“This gracious grant contribution will go toward our first home build in Belfair, house #23.” Said Tammey Newton, Executive Director and COO. “We are so thankful to our community partner, Olympia Federal Savings, for their ongoing commitment to building a stronger community together.”

House #23 has passed final inspection and Habitat is finalizing the mortgage process with new homeowner. Habitat homeowners receive a zero percent interest mortgage based on only the expense of the cost to build the home.

“Olympia Federal Savings is excited to be able to impact our community and help create affordable housing through this grant.” said Cherie Cloud, VP/Branch Manager of the Belfair Branch. “It is exciting to help a local family step into homeownership and begin to build equity in ways they might not otherwise have had an opportunity.”

Habitat for Humanity of Mason County has begun work on house #24 in Shorecrest. In addition to building homes, Habitat has two local stores that provide

discounted building supplies, tools and furniture to the community and reinvests those funds in home construction, land acquisition, operations and assistance to low-income homeowners who are in need of repair and maintenance assistance.
