Shelton, WA, July 25, 2014 – Habitat for Humanity of Mason County was presented with 75 trees and shrubs, at an estimated retail value of $5,000, from AG3 Garden Center located in Allyn Washington, for distribution to Habitat Homeowners in Mason County.
“We know that landscaping really makes a house feel like a home, and we had the opportunity to donate to a great cause, and we are happy to provide Habitat Homeowners with shrubs and trees,” said Kathy Arnold from AG3 Garden Center.
There was a wide variety of shade and decorative trees in the donation. “Habitat’s mission is to build simple, decent, affordable homes,” said Tammey Newton, Executive Director and COO of Habitat for Humanity of Mason County. “In keeping the homes affordable, we have a minimal budget available for landscaping. This gift from our community partner to Habitat families is wonderful.”
Erica Gonzalez, Habitat Homeowner said, “It is fantastic to be able to plant trees and landscape my yard beautifully. The trees are lovely now and they will be really beautiful 30 years from now. I am so excited to have this surprise donation from AG3.”
Habitat recently completed House #23 in Belfair and has started the groundwork for House #24 in Shorecrest. Habitat homeowners receive a zero percent interest mortgage based on the expense of the cost to build the home.
“As we begin construction on House #24, we are looking for volunteers who are looking to help build a house, whether they are proven professionals in construction or novices. One of the great things about Habitat is that these truly are the houses the community builds and together, we are strengthening Mason County,” said Mrs. Newton.
In addition to building homes, Habitat has two local stores that provide discounted building supplies, tools and furniture to the community and reinvests those funds in home construction, land acquisition, operations and assistance to low-income homeowners who are in need of repair and maintenance assistance.
