OUR STORY
Habitat for Humanity of Mason County is a faith-based housing ministry partnering with the community to improve, maintain and build affordable quality housing for those in need. Founded in 1996, Habitat for Humanity has built more than 20 homes in the Mason County area by partnering with individuals, congregations, businesses and other organizations to lend a hand up, not a hand out to those in need of better housing. Our goal is to end substandard housing. We accomplish this in two ways: By building houses with donated funds and volunteer labor. We sell the homes at fair market value with no low-interest mortgages to families who are qualified for the program and who have completed their sweat equity. By partnering with homeowners in need to restore the homes they own and live in so they can continue to live in a safe, decent and affordable home. This includes exterior painting, building ramps and other minor repairs. Home repairs are led by trained crew leaders and completed by Habitat for Humanity volunteers. Habitat for Humanity of Mason County is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a non-profit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry. As part of Habitat for Humanity International, we tithe ten percent of non-designated donations to build homes in countries we have designated. In addition to the thirty-two homes we have built in Mason County, our tithes have built eight homes in Mexico and Haiti.
